Saawariya’s sets are great

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films sets are always talked about. Be it Devdas, Black or now even Saawariya, Bhansali gives sets as much importance as he gives to his scripts and direction.

And the man behind these dream sets is art director Omung Kumar.

“We have tried to create a world, where it’s in India but timeless. But it has everything that you can see in India. It has Buddha, Saraswati, the lotuses and the peacocks. Though it’s scattered all over India, we tried to bring this in one world. And it’s a love story so everything had to be poetic. It was very difficult to do that because we are trying to make a world and make people believe in. It’s a fantasy world,” says Kumar.

It’s not an easy task to erect a set the way Bhansali had visualised. Kumar took almost two years of hardwork and 300 people working round the clock, to create the world in which Bhansali wanted to narrate the story of Saawariya.
